What is in the template

Nine columns, five fictional examples, frozen headers and filters. The Excel file includes status and priority dropdowns plus red overdue, yellow due-today and green next-seven-days date highlighting through row 201. CSV contains the same columns and sample data without formatting.

Client

The client this action belongs to.

Project

The named project under the client.

Task

One specific action or deliverable.

Status

Not Started, In Progress, Waiting or Completed.

Priority

Low, Normal, High or Urgent.

Owner

The person responsible for the next step.

Due Date

When this task needs to be finished.

Waiting On

A person, approval, file or decision blocking the task.

Notes

Context, scope and the latest decision.

Who it is for

People delivering several tasks for several clients, especially when one client has multiple active projects. Use the simpler task tracker if you only need a short checklist without project, priority and blocker columns.

How to use it

  1. 1. Replace examples with one action per row

Keep client and project names consistent. Write a specific task such as Send revised homepage copy instead of a broad label such as Website.

  2. 2. Assign one owner and a real due date

Owner is the person responsible for the next step. Use Priority to distinguish urgency from the due date, and keep Waiting On for missing approvals, files or decisions.

  3. 3. Filter your daily task list

Filter out Completed, then sort Due Date oldest first. Filter Owner when sharing the file, or Client and Project when preparing a client update. The Excel rules cover the first 200 task rows; extend them if the list grows.

  4. 4. Review the mapping before import

Upload the file to ClientPlot and confirm the client, project, task and date columns. Spreadsheet priorities and task statuses remain in notes rather than becoming native task fields. Review owners before saving; names alone do not create workspace members.

When a spreadsheet starts becoming difficult

  • Client requests scattered through separate checklists
  • A task has a date but nobody responsible for it
  • Blocked work disappears between client check-ins
  • Daily filtering takes longer as the task list grows

Keep tasks with the client

ClientPlot groups tasks and projects under each client so the next action has context.

Review dated work together

The dashboard and calendar bring due work across clients into a shared view.

Frequently asked questions

How do I track tasks for multiple clients?

Use one row per task with separate Client and Project columns. Filter by client for a progress update or by owner and due date for your daily work.

How is this different from the client deadline tracker?

This sheet manages individual actions, priorities and blockers. The deadline tracker focuses on promised deliverables and separates the client deadline from your internal target date.

Does the template send reminders?

No. Excel highlights dates when you open or recalculate the workbook. Review the sheet regularly. ClientPlot provides an in-app view of dated work, not automatic follow-up emails.

Can I use it in Google Sheets?

Yes. Import the CSV for portable data, or open the XLSX in Sheets. Excel is the intended app for the workbook's dropdowns and highlighting.
