Client Project Tracker Template

This is the multi-tab workbook: clients, named projects and follow-ups on their own sheets, plus a dashboard. If you only need one project list, use the project tracker template instead.

Projects hold the named work. To track tasks for multiple clients as a dated verb list, download the client task tracker. Want columns of your own? Build a custom tracker, or check an existing spreadsheet.

Free download. No signup required.

No signup required. Excel includes the extra formatting. CSV is portable data only.

When this spreadsheet gets hard to maintain

Import your client list into ClientPlot and manage clients, projects and tasks together.

Free to preview. No credit card. Create an account only when you want to save your dashboard.

  1. Spreadsheet rowsClient records
  2. Project columnProjects under that client
  3. Deadline columnDue dates on the work
  4. Next action / next taskTrackable tasks
  5. Client notesNotes on the client page

Official ClientPlot templates skip the mapping quiz. ClientPlot counts what it found, then you import. Unusual spreadsheets still get a mapping review.

Workbook

  • Separate tabs you have to keep in sync
  • Dashboard formulas you have to trust
  • Easy to miss a follow-up row

ClientPlot

  • Clients, projects and tasks already linked
  • Follow-ups on the dashboard
  • No formula maintenance

Dashboard preview

This replaces a formula Dashboard tab. Counts stay current after you import. Invoice totals and hours stay in the spreadsheet if you track them there.

The named body of work.

Client

Must match a name on the CLIENTS tab.

Low, Normal, High, or Urgent.

Project Value

Progress

Next Task

Scope notes, URLs, constraints.

Who it is for

Agencies, consultants and service businesses tracking more than one project per client.

How to use it

  1. 1. Add the client first

Type the name on CLIENTS. PROJECTS and FOLLOW-UPS pick from that list.

  2. 2. One row per project

If a client has two live projects, they get two rows on PROJECTS.

  3. 3. Put the next human step on FOLLOW-UPS

Due dates on PROJECTS are delivery. Follow-up dates are the check-in.

  4. 4. Import the whole workbook later

Upload this file at clientplot.com/import. ClientPlot counts clients, projects and follow-ups from the matching tabs.

When a spreadsheet starts becoming difficult

  • Two projects stuffed into one client row
  • Follow-ups mixed in with delivery dates
  • No count of what is actually open

Tabs that match how the work runs

Clients, projects and follow-ups are different objects. The sheet finally admits that.

The same file is the upgrade path

When the workbook gets hard to maintain, import it. You do not rebuild the list.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the project tracker?

No. The project tracker is one sheet of projects. This workbook also has a client list, a follow-up log and a dashboard.

Does Google Sheets work?

You can open the file in Sheets. Dropdowns and highlighting are most reliable in Excel. CSV of the project tab is also available.

Can ClientPlot import this workbook?

Yes. That is the point. Upload it, read the counts, then import.
