Who it is for
Consultants and agencies who send a weekly or monthly client update and want the facts in one place before they write the message.
How to use it
1. One row per client project per period
Use Reporting Period for the week or month you are covering. If a client has two live projects, they get two rows.
2. Write completed work and next steps as facts
Completed This Week is what shipped. Next Steps is the next concrete action. Keep both short enough to paste into an email.
3. Separate blockers from waiting on the client
Blockers are things on your side or a third party. Waiting On Client is the missing approval, asset or decision. Decisions Needed is the question you will actually ask.
4. Import when you are tired of rebuilding the update
Upload the file. Client and project become records. Next steps and the upcoming deadline become dated work. The rest of the report stays in notes.
When a spreadsheet starts becoming difficult
- Every Friday you reconstruct the week from sent mail
- Blockers and client delays get told as the same story
- The upcoming deadline is in a different sheet from the update
- Two people send the client two different versions of progress
The report already lives on the client page
In ClientPlot, completed work, next steps, notes and the next deadline sit under the client. You write the update from that page instead of a new row.
Keep the spreadsheet if the weekly ritual still works
Copy last week's row, change the period, and rewrite the facts. Import later if you want the same information in a daily workspace.
Do not invent a client portal
This template is for you. You still send the update. ClientPlot is not a client-facing status page.
Frequently asked questions
What belongs in a weekly client status report?
Overall status, what shipped, what happens next, what is blocked, what you need from the client, any decision, and the upcoming deadline. Budget belongs here only if you will keep it current.
Is this an Excel file or a document?
It is a spreadsheet: one row per project per period, easy to filter and import. Copy the cells into Google Docs or email when you send the update.
How is this different from a deliverables tracker?
A deliverables tracker lists owed outputs. This report summarizes a period: progress, next steps and blockers. Many teams use both.
Will ClientPlot write the report for me?
No. It keeps the underlying work: tasks, dates, notes and files under the client. You still write the update.
Can clients open this file?
Only if you share it. ClientPlot is your workspace, not a client portal.
