Consultant Client Tracker Template

Consulting practices often start in a spreadsheet because each engagement is a little different. This template is that spreadsheet, cleaned up: client, engagement, next step, deadline, and the follow-up that keeps the relationship warm between projects.

Excel and CSV included. For Google Sheets, download CSV and use File > Import, or click Open Google Sheets and upload the file.

What is in the template

Client, engagement or project, status, next step, due date, next follow-up, owner, and notes from the last conversation. Sample rows look like a real consulting week, not a generic task list.

Client

The account or buyer.

Project

The engagement name.

Status

Active, waiting, complete, between projects.

Next Action

The next deliverable or conversation.

Due Date

Deliverable deadline.

Next Follow-Up

Relationship check-in, if different.

Assigned To

Who owns it inside your firm.

Notes

Last meeting notes and landmines.

Who it is for

Independent consultants and tiny firms who track delivery and relationship work in the same list.

How to use it

  1. 1. Separate delivery from relationship

Due date is the deliverable. Next follow-up is the human. Both belong on the row.

  2. 2. Write the next step as if someone else had to do it

If you got sick tomorrow, could a colleague send the email from this cell?

  3. 3. Review Fridays for next week

Move dates, close finished engagements, and set follow-ups for anyone who went quiet.

When a spreadsheet starts becoming difficult

  • Engagement notes live in Google Docs nobody opens before a call
  • Between-project follow-ups never get a date
  • Deadlines sneak up because they sat in a proposal PDF
  • You cannot see the whole book of work on Monday morning

One client timeline

ClientPlot keeps engagements, notes, and files on the client page so pre-call review takes seconds.

Today is deliverables plus check-ins

The dashboard mixes due work and follow-ups, which is how consulting weeks actually run.

You do not have to rebuild the practice in a new tool to get a daily view.

Frequently asked questions

I already have a client tracker. Do I need this one too?

Only if you think in engagements. This sheet makes the project and the next consulting step first-class. The generic client tracker is broader and includes phone and company columns.

Does ClientPlot write proposals or invoices?

No. It tracks the work and the relationship. Attach the proposal to the client so it is findable, and keep billing where it already lives.

Can I open this as a dashboard?

Yes. Use Open as a dashboard on this page, or import your own Excel file with the same kinds of columns.
